Bethlehem, Christmas, Contrasts

I am very excited as tomorrow I leave for Bethlehem to take part in Bet Lahem Live.
I am writing this blog to 'map' how I feel about this experience as it unfolds.

This morning I came across this video on the Amos Trust website which talks about Bethlehem's role in Christmas and really shows a contrast in what I think many of us believe about Bethlehem and what is happening there now.

When I watched the film two things stood out for me;

1) There is a guy who has a degree in accounting and he is tending sheep because he can't get a job - this is sad.
2) Whenever I see that Israeli separation wall I feel a sense of claustrophobia, and I don't even live there!  How must the people of Bethlehem be feeling?

There is so much pain and anguish in this region.  No trust between one side and the other and in many ways none of the people involved are living their lives to their fullest.

I hope that Bet Lahem Live will help to melt a little of that mutual hatred between peoples.

Thanks for listening.
