A collection of poems about Palestine
Whilst away in Palestine I needed to try and process my thoughts and it seemed that poetry was the best way! I hate poetry! It bores the pants off me! However, I really did find this to be a good way to describe what I saw.
So the following is what I came up with...
Bethlehem Awakes
Manger Square,
Just there,
First light, clean air.
Sky blue,
Sky bright,
Peaceful within, at this time.
Pilgrims pray,
Seize the day,
Today's struggle, almost, held at bay,
At least for now, anyway.

The House on the Hill
House on the hill,
Beautiful hill,
If so beautiful,
Why do I feel so ill?
Children play,
In rubble made the other day,
By Israeli might.
They'll sleep in a tent tonight.
"I will be buried in that space one day"
The father will not leave
Ten generations of family,
Lived here till today.
Occupation,
Just splitting a nation,
Hatred mistrust, separation wall stations.
We will not leave,
This is our location,
Settlers go home,
Stop your occupation!

On Tuesday I watched TV
On Tuesday I watched TV,
Like people who live, who are free
Our house sits above a valley,
From which a camera, points, right at me
On Wednesday, we met Israelis,
Bulldozers, soldiers, the army,
The gave me ten minutes to flee,
Then crushed my house into the valley.
The Israeli wall looks nice from here,
No concrete monstrosity,
It's been designed with care you see,
So not to upset the new Israelis.
Twenty generations, my family,
Lived here but were never free,
This is my land,
I'll make a stand,
Please don't take it from me.

Hebron
New upon old,
Israeli settlers are bold,
Building their houses on history untold.
Movements restricted,
Roads locked down in minutes
We are the controllers,
You are the inflicted.
"Betray your home"
"We'll pay you don't moan"
Turn your back on the truth,
Our power is shown.
